It’s not necessary for individuals whose primary work responsibilities center around homemaking to limit their work horizons to the four walls of their home. Let’s face it…homemaking is an incredibly complex job requiring a deep bench of skill sets, especially if children are involved! Just ask yourself… or any multi-tasking homemaker!
Your typical day involves planning and successfully executing the following: 1. Morning school drop-off (chauffer); 2. Food prep for eaters with a broad range of tastes and potential allergies (nutritionist and culinary expert); 3. Managing household budgets within financial constraints and fluctuating economic conditions (financial planner); 4. Planning and coordinating medical appointments, sporting events, activities, and lessons, etc. (logistics coordinator); 5. Contributing to the PTA newsletter and promoting school fundraising events (social media specialist); 6. Managing play dates, homework assistance, bathing, and school projects (child development supervisor, while wrangling a toddler whilst preparing dinner (chef and Tetris expert).
Like other homemakers, you may minimize the importance of the miracles you are accomplishing every day. You know firsthand that acknowledging even a small triumph will immediately cause the universe to deliver a curveball of near insurmountable proportions you must then ninja through (contortionist/acrobat). Instead, you keep your head down, plow ahead, and focus on the many expected and unexpected multi-tasks at hand (improv expert)…until you get hit by the split curveball and must now become a survivalist post-breakup! This may require you to explore work opportunities outside the home for which you may feel unprepared.
The good news is the Split Sisters have your back! We have created a sample resume that translates your massive skill set into job tasks broadly applicable to most work settings. While you may need to edit and customize it a bit, we hope this downloadable will help you on your journey. Even if the jobs you seek don’t require a resume, you may consider using our sample resume or an edited version to become comfortable translating your skill sets during job interviews.
