Nearly 40 and newly divorced, I was ready to hit the reset button and dive back into the dating pool. Unlike the romcoms I had binged, fate was not connecting me in random and romantic ways with my future ex-husband. After spending too many weekends alone, I decided to take matters into my own hands.
My town had a park with a large pond surrounded by a walking path that attracted a steady stream of people, especially when the weather was nice. I took my faithful basset hound there for a walk waddle and noticed a most handsome man my age jogging by. When he ran by a 2nd time and nothing fateful happened, I decided to shove gently nudge fate along and discreetly unclasped the leash and, with the swiftness of a manatee, my dog lumbered off. When Cutie Patootie ran by a 3rd time, I feigned total distress that my beloved basset was off-leash. You guessed it, Cutie Patootie pledged himself into service and secured and returned my basset to me. And, while we didn’t develop a long-term relationship, we had a great time dating for several months. He eventually admitted he had run his last loop when he noticed me and, while exhausted, forced himself to run 3 more times around until we ‘fatefully” met. Have you ever had to give fate a helpful shove? We need those stories! Also, see Finding Romance While You Shop for more stories like this.

I love this! I am a dog person so I totally have to try this… except I think my dogs would bolt and this would totally backfire!!! Great idea though! 🙂1 month ago
